My Own Twist of a Great Ribeye Steak

If you love to eat steaks but wouldn't want to pay a hefty price of eating out. The good news is you can actually do it yourself in the privacy of your home.

It's really simple.

At the end of this article from ehow.com I will share with you my own twist that you will appreciate and enjoy. Your pallet and tummy will be so grateful :)

The Best Way to Cook a Ribeye Steak | eHow.com

Here's my twist:

4 cloves garlic
baby portobello and shitake mushrooms cut into slices.
3 tablespoons of Olive oil
1 teaspoon butter
1/8 to 1/4 cup of Pinor Noir or Merlot wine (self preference)
Steamed asparagus, carrots and yellow zucchini

Use the drippings to saute the garlic medium heat. Add 1 Tbsp of olive oil. When garlic is light brown add all mushrooms and add the remaining olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Add more pepper. When mushrooms are half cooked add red wine. Once deglazed add butter. Once butter is totally melted - you are done. DO NOT OVERCOOK the mushrooms.

Take out your steak(s) out of the oven and pour all the mushrooms and drippings over the steak(s). Or you can pour over on top of your steamed asparagus, carrots and yellow zucchini.

You also can make the gravy with the same process and ingredients.

BON APPETIT!

Live Chat: Getting Fit without Dieting and Pills

You would like that wouldn't you? What a silly question you might say! Of course, who wouldn't?

On Wednesday, March 30 at 9:00 PST - 12:00 EST a Live Chat with Dr. Andersen who is the Medical Director of Take Shape For Life, Inc. is our chance to know a lot more on how to get fit without dieting and pills.

I hope it's as interesting and informative as it sounds. Be there or be square....

Here's more on the article from the LA Times or simply click on the link: getting fit: to be healthy - latimes.com

Living in Japan while in high school, Wayne Andersen observed the effect that the low-fat Asian diet had on creating much lower levels of obesity, cancer, and heart disease, compared to Western cultures. He also recognized how important family, life-long friends, and a life of meaning and purpose was to these people in their health and longevity.

In college at the University of Florida, he graduated with honors and then went on to medical school at the University for the Health Sciences in Kansas City, where he was valedictorian of his graduating class. Dr. Andersen did his internship at Grandview Hospital in Kansas City ¿ where he later directed the hospital’s surgical critical care program at Grandview and served as chairman of the department of anesthesiology. In 2000, he made a monumental decision to leave his hospital-based practice to devote his full energy to helping people to become and to stay healthy.

See you there...

10 Things To Do On A Rainy Weekend

Rain can alter anyone's best laid out plans for the weekend. So I thought to post something that might give us all some ideas on days like these.

Here's an article by Erika Liodice @http://erikaliodice.blogspot.com/

Thanks Erika.

It's been rainy and gray here for so many days now that I've lost count. To make matters worse, thunderstorms are threatening to wash away the weekend too. The worst part about a rainy weekend is not knowing what to do with yourself, so I put together a list of 10 things to entertain yourself while you're cooped inside (and none of them require a television set):

1. Break out an old board game (or buy a new one).

2. Prepare a theme dinner complete with centerpiece, menu and costume.

3. Make homemade greeting cards.

4. Crack open a book you've meaning to read.

5. Take a well-deserved nap.

6. Call an old friend.

7. Learn some basic words in a foreign language.

8. Organize old photos.

9. Bake something tasty.

10. Create your own cocktail.

Wishing you a fun weekend despite the weather!

7 Ways To Ask For The Job At Interview's End

An article from Phil Rosenberg of SimplyBlog. A MUST READ and a MUST KEEP on file.

What do you do at the end of an interview?

Everyone tells you to ask for the job … but few people will tell you how to ask for it.

Many job seekers take a passive approach and just don’t ask for the job. There are not many situations where a passive approach works well and is often interpreted in a lack of interest in the job.

Interviewers and hiring managers typically assume that if a candidate doesn’t ask for the job, they just aren’t interested. From the candidate point of view, asking for the job makes many uncomfortable, opens themselves up for rejection – this is especially common among candidates who have had long term frustrations with job search. Others feel that asking for the job is “too pushy”.

I give this general career advice to all candidates: Take a risk and ask because you miss 100% of the shots you never take. So far, this isn’t earth shattering news.

Here’s the real meat of today’s career advice: Let’s go over some strategies that work well, and contrast with a few that don’t. In addition, I’ll help you translate the interviewer’s response to better understand if you’ll move forward in the hiring process.

7 ways to ask for the job at interview’s end:

Common Approaches

1. Direct Approach: “I’d really like to work for your company – the job sounds perfect for me”

While the most popular approach, this method is riddled with problems. It’s centered around what the candidate wants, not what the company wants. If delivered with the wrong tone, in the wrong situation, or to the wrong person, it can be perceived as desperate or pushy. This approach doesn’t ask the interviewer for their opinion of the candidate, which could even appear insulting. Where this can work – for a high pressure, transactional sales position, this demonstrates an ability to go for the close. At an employer that values relationships and taking the time to build trust, this approach can ruin an otherwise great interview.

2. Feedback Approach: “So how did I do?”

This approach asks the interviewer for feedback, and puts the interviewer on the spot. If you are one of the leading candidates, and the interviewer definitely has you on the callback list, you’ll probably get a strong answer. The problem with this approach is if you are on the bubble for callback, you’ll rarely have an interviewer tell you this (interviewers don’t want confrontation, or to make a discussion uncomfortable – plus they probably have to move on to the next candidate). If you’re on the bubble, you’ll probably get a non answer telling you that they will review all candidates and make callbacks in the next week or two – basically “Don’t call us, we’ll call you”.

Closing Approaches

3. Next Steps Approach: “What’s our next step?”

While a favorite among salespeople, this approach can have drawbacks also. This approach uses an assumptive close technique common in the sales world, assuming there’s a next step and that the interview process will move forward. If you’re a leading candidate, you’ll likely get the response you want, otherwise you’re likely to hear that the company is still reviewing candidates and …. “Don’t call us, we’ll call you”.

4. Objections Approach: “Do you have any remaining concerns about how well I could do the job?”

This is another approach that might work more effectively for a sales position than for others. For a transactional sales position, it demonstrates closing techniques. For non-sales positions, you risk that you haven’t asked the right question. The interviewer may answer “no”, which can still leave the candidate in confusion – The interviewer may have decided that you are not a good fit, so they have no remaining concerns … the interviewer’s decision has already been made.

Leveraged Feedback Approaches

5. Ranking Approach: “In comparison to other candidates for this position, how do I rank?”

This is a higher level approach, which can give the candidate insight as to chances of getting the job. Higher quality feedback is one of the advantages to this approach. You open the interviewer to give some great feedback, allowing a comparison of how strong of a fit the interviewer perceives vs your own perception of how the interview went. If the response that doesn’t translate into “you’re one of the top candidates” … move to the next opportunity, because this one’s not happening.

6. Fit Approach: “How do you see me fitting in with your company?”

This approach can uncover unmentioned objections in an interview and can give feedback to understand how well you “read” the interview (do your perceptions of fit match the interviewer’s perceptions). This can be effective especially when a key criteria is sensitivity to others. If the response isn’t excited and glowing, if the word “fine” or something similar is used, or if the interviewer is waiting to review all the candidates, you aren’t a top choice. Again, move on and don’t wait by the phone.

7. 1 to 10 Approach: “On a 1 to 10 scale (10 being best), how do you think I’d do in the position?”

For most situations, I like this approach best, other than for highly transactional sales positions. This approach treats your desire to get feedback as an employee review, showing that you truly seek constructive criticism. It’s also a process that HR personnel, recruiters, and hiring managers are very familiar with, increasing your chances of getting an honest response. To get additional feedback, you can ask a secondary question “What could I do to make that a 10?” This approach gives you a very clear idea of where you stand and your best shot at understanding any objections in the interviewer’s mind – maybe even a chance to clear up any misunderstandings. If you get anything but a 9 or a 10, move on.

Thanks to Phil Rosenberg of SimplyBlog for this very helpful and informative article.

Yahweh, You are Near

Today if...

You stumble and fall He is there to catch you....

When you sin, He's there waiting to forgive you...

When you're confused and lost, He said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life."

When you're sick, He is your Healer...

When in trouble, He is your Deliverer...

And it doesn't matter how far you are from God today.

If you seek Him with all your heart - you shall find Him.

He never sleeps, never rests... waiting for you to come home.

He did not deserve to die on the Cross. But He did. For you...

Today, and every day, He still has His arms stretched out for you in loving anticipation that you call upon His Name.

Spend time with Him and tell him what's in your heart and mind about everything. Not just on Sundays or when you are in trouble... But every day...

Open your arms and reach out to the heavens and let God AMAZE YOU!

Don't forget Him - He never forgets you....

Wherever we are, wherever we go - we can never hide from the enormous and immeasurable love that God has for us found through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Island Getaways in North America

Slip away from the daily grind to one of these eight charming isles where you can kick back & unwind.

Here's an article from: MSNBC

Birds start to twitch as we approach the spring equinox. Their brains, catalyzed by the lengthening photoperiod, i.e. more sunlight, tell them to fatten up for spring flights to summer nesting lands. For these migrants, many having flown for countless nighttime hours across gulf, ocean and lake, islands appear at the perfect moment, providing shelter, rest, and most importantly, nourishment. Islands also replenish us. A ferry or causeway carries us away from harried society.

Living on an island takes resolve, but a daylong or weeklong visit provides plenty of island medicine without any of the obligation. For example, one doesn't casually move to Vancouver's Bowen Island, an artist colony where, one former resident recently reflected, "everyone knows what you ate for breakfast." But a visit to Bowen Island on a sun-filled Saturday to tour galleries and sample pastries at The Village Baker café should be nobody's business but your own. Here are eight superb islands that just might tempt you to set your clock to island time.

Assateague Island, Virginia

You can't inhabit Assateague Island unless you have feathers or your height is measured in hands. Home to more than 300 bird species, this 37-mile-long barrier island constantly changes physically, though its unusual political split between claimants Maryland and Virginia remains firmly in place. The state and commonwealth even divide the famed wild (actually feral) horses with a fence that bisects the island. You can only see the "saltwater roundup" on the Virginia side however, when the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department, which manages the herd, completes a census and thins the herd via auction on "Pony Penning Day." (More progressive Maryland keeps herd numbers stable with contraception.) Kayaking upon the natural inland channels reveals herons, eagles, pelicans and, yes, even the occasional horse.

Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia

Islands are defined by physical remoteness, but no North American "landmass surrounded entirely by water" dispatches us more dramatically into a different culture than Cape Breton. Highway signs appear in not two but four languages here: Acadian, Gaelic, English and the Algonquian language, Mikmaq. Once independent of Nova Scotia, this community continues to teach Gaelic in the schools. Alexander Graham Bell was so taken with the town of Baddeck on the shores of Bras d'Or Lake that he made his summer home here. The Cabot Trail traverses through the Cape Breton Highlands, among the most majestic headlands this side of Scotland. Visits to Cape Breton are incomplete without attending a Celtic music celebration, or caleigh, often featuring world-renowned fiddlers, or a kitchen party, spontaneous gatherings where even the guests are expected to participate.

Gulf Islands, British Columbia

The New York Times recently listed San Juan Island among the top five of its world travel bucket list, for good reason: Riding a ferry through this archipelago during a summer sunset is one of the best boat trips anywhere, especially if a resident orca pod comes out to play. But visitors should also consider the foreign section of the archipelago: B.C.'s Gulf Islands. The Canadian vibe distills a little essence of Scotland's Shetland group, with fishing villages, traditional pubs and plenty of tea. The summer weather, however, is hardly akin to that in the North Sea; think Mediterranean Sea instead. Similar to its San Juan Island cousin in the States, Salt Spring Island is a sure bet, especially if you plan early enough to book a room or dinner at Hastings House, one of Canada's finest inns and restaurants. Studios, including that of Robert Bateman, arguably the world's best wildlife artist, are sprinkled throughout the inhabited islands. Many islands prohibit development, providing wildlife habitat and models for Bateman and his peers.

Isle Royale, Michigan

Growing up, I'm not sure when I first heard about the wolves of Isle Royale. To a young boy living near Lake Ontario, the idea that an island within one of the Great Lakes remained wild enough to support the mighty wolf astounded me. Clearly someone at the National Park Service felt the same way, as the island, its six lakes and 450 surrounding islands was made a national park in 1931. Home to the longest predator-prey (wolf-moose) study in the world, Isle Royale is also, according to the National Park Service, the source of one of Earth's liveliest geographical trivia factoids: "Ryan Island on Isle Royale's Siskiwit Lake is the largest island on the largest lake on the largest island on the largest (freshwater) lake in the world. Say that a few times fast and you just might end up baying at the moon.

Kauai, Hawaii

Do so much more than vegetate on Hawaii's Garden Island, Kauai.

It is said that once you visit Kauai, you'll only visit Kauai. Long known as the "Garden Island," Kauai benefits from historically strict development protocols and resilient self-determination. More than 1.5 million visitors come to Kauai each year to explore the unspoiled environment and observe pure Hawaii's native culture. The volcanic geography includes the rugged North Shore's Na Pali Coast State Park and the white sand beaches of the South Shore. Artist studios line the street in the West Side's Hanapepe Town, though pristine nature, like Waimea Canyon's Grand Gorge, is never far away. The East Side of Kauai reveals lush coconut groves beneath a majestic series of cataracts including the mystical Wailua Falls and Opaekaa Falls. Step onto Kauai and you've literally disappeared into the Fern Grotto, though you can always choose to play upon more than 50 miles of public beach.

Monhegan Island, Maine

Hermits, artists, fairy houses. No, this isn't a young adult fantasy novel, it's Monhegan Island, Maine. The hermit, Ray Phillips, lived on the hillside of adjacent Manana Island for 40 years. The artist studio roster has included Edward Hopper, Rockwell Kent and three generations of Wyeths, from N.C. to Jamie. And the faeries, well they live in Cathedral Forest, at least that's where you'll spy their many homes constructed of acorns, lichen and other green sources. The century-old Island Inn greets the other ferries as they enter the harbor. The grand weather-beaten building, with sweeping veranda, serves boxed lunches from the café if you're eager to visit the many artists' studios, chase faeries or observe the dwelling of a hermit who sailed into the harbor one day and never left. Will you?

Assorted wildlife abounds around St. Vincent's distinct habitats.

St. Vincent Island, Florida

No one is surprised to hear of wolves in Isle Royale on the Canadian-American border, but wolves also roamed the southeast. Today, St. Vincent Island is home to one of the last populations of the endangered red wolf. The 12,490-acre national wildlife refuge features 10 distinct habitats for migrating wood storks as well as several threatened species including gopher tortoises, nesting loggerhead sea turtles and indigo snakes. The island is also a first stop for migrating neotropical migratory songbirds that touch down eager to feed after flying all night from Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Like the native herons, visitors come to fish on the refuge lakes and collect shells on the gulf beaches. Even with 10 environments from which to choose, a colony of bats has ignored the natural habitat to occupy the attic of an old (thankfully unoccupied) hunting cabin.

Santa Catalina Island, California

Escape to this romantic retreat just 26 miles outside of Los Angeles.

Santa Catalina Island and Alaska's Aleutian Islands are rarely spoken of in the same sentence, except when one learns that the eponymous Russian fur traders, the Aleuts, eventually settled on the California island, driven by the desire for still more sea otter pelts. Located just 26 miles physically but a world away spiritually from Los Angeles, romantics have escaped to this 22-mile by 8-mile member of the Channel archipelago for generations, where they can rent bikes, snorkel or hike the newly constructed 37-mile Trans-Catalina Trail. Those looking for still more remoteness should travel north to Santa Cruz Island, the largest island in Channel Islands National Park. Kayak in the sea caves with Aquasports, or spend the day roaming this remarkable park after taking an Island Packers ferry.

By his Wounds we are Healed.

Without God's grace it is impossible to forgive others. We can't do it alone. Even though without "sin" He was put to death undeservingly for our sins. And yet He asked our Heavenly Father and said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing..." Luke 23:34.

Though He was God He lived his life with us not like a God but as "man." To show us the way to live our lives. He was tempted like we are tempted. Betrayed like we have been in the past. He wept and mourned when Lazarus died like we do. But suffered and persecuted more than a man can ever humanly imagine or endure.

So through Him - through His grace we can do the same and ask the Heavenly Father and say, "Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing..."

Here's a great article from "The Word Among Us" about "forgiveness."

“Go first and be reconciled with your brother.” (Matthew 5:24)

Friendships are a lot like fine porcelain. They are a real treasure that can be easy to break, but difficult to mend.

We all know how painful it can be to experience a friend’s betrayal or rejection. It’s one of the most difficult things a person can endure. That helps explain why it can be hard to forgive someone who has hurt us deeply. In some cases, in fact, this failure to forgive can do more harm than the act that initially hurt us. If left alone, wounds like these have a tendency to fester and grow larger and larger.

This is one reason why Jesus commanded us to forgive. He knows how much damage unforgiveness can cause. Yet at the same time, he doesn’t underestimate how difficult this call can be. After all, Jesus himself endured the betrayal of a close friend. Imagine how he must have wept over Judas! Still, Jesus urges—he even commands—us to forgive, to be reconciled, and to let go of past hurts. He went so far as to say that the degree to which we can forgive one another is the degree to which we will know his Father’s forgiveness (Matthew 18:35).

There is simply no way around it. We have to forgive. It may sound too demanding, but that only happens when we lose sight of Jesus and the mercy he has had on us. He has a storehouse of love to make up for our lack. He can help us when our hearts are hard or bitter.

Oftentimes, forgiveness happens over time and in gradual layers— and Jesus knows that. He is not as concerned with whether we have forgiven everyone completely as he is concerned that we keep our hearts soft and ask him for the grace to be a bit more merciful each day. So take one more step today toward being reconciled with your brothers and sisters! Let the love of Christ fill you so that you can give that same love and mercy to all the people in your life.

“Lord Jesus, only you can mend broken hearts and heal wounded souls. Make me whole by the power of your Spirit. Give me the grace to forgive.”

Norning Prayer: Day 5

Dear God, we thank you for the blessings we sometimes take for granted. Our eyes. With this gift, we can see the beauty that surrounds us. The sunrise, the sunset. The moon and the stars that shine for us at night. The beaches, hills and mountains... To have the sight to see our loved ones, friends and others. What a gift! And yet at times we choose to see the negatives Lord. About people, how they have hurt us and wronged us, why life is not working out the way we want it...

Forgive us dear God. For failing to remember your love for us at those moments. To remember that You will always be faithful with your promises. That You will always be our justice and our avenger when we are wronged. That You will always be our provider when debts our sky high and we don't know how we can pay it. For You are Jehovah Jirah. Our Provider! You will never fail us!

Whisper to us and remind us to always see the beauty in our lives and in others. To let go of the things that keep us down, make us cynical and make us blind. And to let in the things that build us, enrich us and edify us. For you God, is Good. Yes Lord. You are always Good all the time!

Let your grace allow your Love to magnify within us. That we may see ourselves, others and our life through your eyes.

We thank you and we praise You for this precious gift dear Lord. Amen.

Morning Prayer Day 4

My Lord, my Savior, I thank you for all the wonderful blessings You have showered upon me. Let my mind dwell on your Words in the Bible that I may not get bothered and distracted of the little annoyances and inconveniences of life.

Work your Holy Spirit in me that I may live my life imitating You every day. At my home, my work and everywhere. May my actions be more righteous than my words.

I lay down before you all my worries and my fears... my family, friends, my plans, my joys and pains. Even people who hate me too!

I also surrender all the people of Japan to You. Protect them from the nuclear reactors and aftershocks. Fill the thirst and hunger of their souls through your Holy Presence.

Yes Lord Jesus, I surrender everything to You, Amen.

Sometimes the wear and tear... the bruises of my life's journey gets to me that I set my eyes off you - Then I forget the enormous magnitude of your Love for me. The Power of your Word that sustains me - that gives me strength and peace.

Let your Grace flow freely in me that I may not set my eyes off You again... so I can overcome my fears and doubts. To allow me to forgive others and to forgive myself - and to allow me to love them even if they don't deserve it. Because You loved me first even I don't deserved it either.

So through your Holy Spirit I can walk into this world today with new enthusiasm and energy on life... a renewed faith, hope and love to spread and GIVE to others today.

Thank You my sweet Jesus for showing me the way. My heart is filled with a tremendous joy that can only found in You. Praise be to Your Holy Name. Forever and ever, AMEN.

Don't forget to watch this video. It's really uplifting! Have a blessed day!

Our Morning Prayer - Day 2

Good morning Lord...

You said that whenever 2 or 3 are gathered in your name you will be there in their midst. Myself and the person praying with me today on this first day of Lent give you thanks and all the praise for your Goodness, Mercy and Love. A Love that knows no bounds or conditions. Though we might not understand everything about You and your ways we know one things is absolutely and definitely true - That You Love us so much that You sent your only Son to die for our sins. Though we may stumble along the way there You are waiting... patiently...and lovingly...

Light my way O Lord especially in times when I am afraid... confused... and lost... Remind me of Your words and promises that assures me that You will always be there for me. When the cares of the world start to get to me, fill my cup... my well when it runs dry. And let me rest to your green pastures as You refresh me and give me new strength.

Today as I walk out in this world let Your Light shine through me to spread and share your message of Love and Forgiveness that it may give them hope like I hope in You.

Amen.

Watch and sing along and pray twice to our God!

Possibly Millions of Dead Fish in Redondo Beach Found

Very interesting and unnerving if you ask me. It started on New Year's Eve where 100,000 dead birds were found. Next thing you know it's happening all over the world. A phenomenon! Everywhere you hear about dead fish and dead birds. I know this happened before in the past but not at this rate and this many. I believe there's something going on up in the heavens above. A part of prophecy? I believe so... It's not an opinion from the article but just my opinion.

Here's the article from the LA Times.

25 Factors That Affect Auto Insurance Premiums

Here are truths and facts about auto insurance pricing. It's good to know.

There are a lot of factors that affect how much you pay for auto insurance. Some of these factors are in your control, some are not. Auto insurance companies use a process called underwriting to take your information, assess the risk they believe you present, and then quote a premium. While insurance companies do not all use the exact same criteria in the exact same way to determine insurance cost, there are common factors that all car insurance companies use. Here are 25 of them.

1. Age: Age is a big factor in auto insurance premiums. If you are under 25, expect to pay more. While premiums for men under 25 are significantly higher than premiums from women in the same age group, all other factors being equal, both can expect to pay in excess of 100% more than an adult base rate. And at the other end of the age spectrum, rates can go up as you enter your golden years.

2. Gender: Particularly for younger drivers, men can expect to pay significantly more than women.

3. Driving Record: Your driving record is obviously important to assessing insurance risk. Some insurance companies go back as far as five years. However, as any past accidents or violations age, your premiums can come down.

4. Type of Vehicle: The type of car or truck you drive impacts premiums in a couple of ways. More expensive cars that cost more to repair send premiums higher. And some cars are more or less prone to accidents. For more details, check out our list of the most and least expensive cars to insure.

5. Age of Vehicle: this factor relates to vehicle type. As a car or truck ages, its value declines and premiums go down as well. Of course, inflation can cause other factors in the premium to go up. Also, some really old cars my lack safety features that may affect the premium. But all things being equal, an older car generally will be less costly to insure.

6. Credit Score and History: Study after study shows a high correlation between credit scores and claims history. On average, those with lower credit scores have a higher rate of claims. Just another reason to improve your credit score.

7. Marital Status: Apparently, married people are, on average, more stable and less accident prone. Just another benefit of marriage!

8. Where You Live: There are several things going on with your geography. First, some locations are just more expensive than others. It will cost more to repair a car in northern New Jersey than it will in the middle of Ohio. Also, some locations are more accident prone than others due to traffic congestion and patterns.

9. Claims History: It should go without saying that your auto insurance claims in the past will be factored into your premiums. The good news is that if you go long enough without a claim, some insurance carriers will put you into a category that keeps you from being dropped because of claims. After more than 25 years with Nationwide, I’m in that category, so my agent tells me.

10. Criminal Record: When you do the crime, you must do the time. And that can mean higher premiums depending on just what crime(s) you’ve been convicted of.

11. Other Insurance: Most insurance carriers will offer multiple policy discounts. If you get your auto, life, and home owner’s insurance from the same carrier, for example, you should see a discounted rate.
12. Miles Driven Each Year: Some insurance carriers offer low mileage discounts. We recently wrote about car insurance by the mile. While that option is not available in most states, low mileage discounts are.
13. Car Alarm: Simple enough. Car alarms reduce the risk of theft, thus lowering premiums. Having lived in Boston for three years, though, I can tell you that against the right thief, they are not much of a deterrent.
14. Occupation: Insurance companies will factor in what you do for a living. The data indicates that some occupations, and being unemployed, can increase the risk of claims.
15. Education: Generally, the more education you have, the lower your premiums. Keep in mind that not all carriers use the same underwriting criteria. So exactly how something like education will impact premiums is difficult to determine, but it is a factor.

16. School Grades: As I’ve told my two children, maintaining at least a 3.0 can shave $100 to $200 a year off of the insurance premiums for teenagers. If my kids don’t maintain at least a 3.0, they will pay the difference!

17. Driving Distance to Work: If you drive a short distance to work each day, you can probably save a few bucks on premiums.

18. Multiple Vehicles & Drivers: This is a tricky one. With more than one car, you can get a multiple car discount with most insurance companies. But as my agent recently told me, with teenage drivers, more cars can cost you on a per car basis. Why? With a family of four and two cars, the parents can be designated as the primary drivers of both cars, keeping premiums down. Get a third or even fourth car, and now the teenagers are viewed as primary drivers, and rates per car go up.

19. Current Insurance & Premiums: Insurance carriers don’t like to see gaps in coverage. If you’ve been with the same insurance company for a number of years and are looking to change, your history with your existing carrier will count in your favor when you compare rate quotes.

20. Years of Driving Experience: Another obvious factor. With more experience, the risk you present goes down, all other things being equal.

21. Business Use of the Vehicle: If you use the vehicle for business, the nature of your business and the vehicle’s use will be a big factor in your premiums.
22. Driver Training: Under various circumstances, driver training classes can reduce your premiums. In some instances, driver training is required due to past infractions.
23. Resident Student Discount: This is one my insurance agent told me about as we discussed the cost of insuring my two teenagers. Basically, if your child goes off to school without a car and more than 100 miles away, you can get a break on your premiums. If they do take a car with them, you still may get a lower premium depending on the location of the school
24. Completion of a state-approved senior driver defensive course: For those enjoying the golden years, you may be able to get a discount if you take a course designed for seniors and defensive driving.
25. Safety feature discount: This usually gets factored in automatically based on the car you insure, but safety features (think air bags, for example), can reduce the cost of insurance.

An Angel Walked by Highway 109

Poem that will give you goose bumps..............

A drunk man in an Oldsmobile
They said had run the light
That caused the six-car pileup
On 109 that night.

When broken bodies lay about
And blood was everywhere,
The sirens screamed out eulogies,
For death was in the air.

A mother, trapped inside her car,
Was heard above the noise;
Her plaintive plea near split the air:
Oh, God, please spare my boys!"

She fought to loose her pinned hands;
She struggled to get free,
But mangled metal held her fast
In grim captivity.

Her frightened eyes then focused
On where the back seat once had been,
But all she saw was broken glass and
Two children's seats crushed in.

Her twins were nowhere to be seen;
She did not hear them cry,
And then she prayed they'd been thrown free,
Oh, God, don't let them die!"

Then firemen came and cut her loose,
But when they searched the back,
They found therein no little boys,
But the seat belts were intact.

They thought the woman had gone mad
And was travelling alone,
But when they turned to question her,
They discovered she was gone.

Policemen saw her running wild
And screaming above the noise
In beseeching supplication,
Please help me find my boys!

They're four years old and wear blue shirts;
Their jeans are blue to match."
One cop spoke up, "They're in my car,
And they don't have a scratch.

They said their daddy put them there
And gave them each a cone,
Then told them both to wait for Mom
To come and take them home.

I've searched the area high and low,
But I can't find their dad.
He must have fled the scene,
I guess, and that is very bad."

The mother hugged the twins and said,
While wiping at a tear,
He could not flee the scene, you see,
For he's been dead a year."

The cop just looked confused and asked,
Now, how can that be true?"
The boys said, "Mommy, Daddy came
And left a kiss for you."

He told us not to worry
And that you would be all right,
And then he put us in this car with
The pretty, flashing light.

We wanted him to stay with us,
Because we miss him so,
But Mommy, he just hugged us tight
And said he had to go.

He said someday we'd understand
And told us not to fuss,
And he said to tell you, Mommy,
He's watching over us."

The mother knew without a doubt.
That what they spoke was true,
For she recalled their dad's last words,
I will watch over you."

The firemen's notes could not explain
The twisted, mangled car,
And how the three of them escaped
Without a single scar.

But on the cop's report was scribed,
In print so very fine,
An angel walked the beat tonight
on Hwy. 109

Health News: Smart Balance vs: I Can't Believe It's Not Butter

What we all need to know regarding Butter. For our overall health - here's an article from AssociatedContent that compares I can't Believe It's Not Butter and Smart Balance.

Most foodies would agree that butter, a popular and delicious addition to any dish whether that be toast, sautéed chicken or mashed potatoes, is a tough recipe ingredient to replace. Butter substitutes have bee around for decades, most notably margarine and oleo. These days, you will have better luck finding oleo in crossword puzzles instead of supermarket shelves. But all is not lost to those of us who want the great taste of butter without the damage to the heart and hips. Smart Balance and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter are the closest substitutes you will get to the real thing. Still there are similarities and differences with regard to taste and health respectively that distinguish these brands from other substitutes and each other.

In comparing Smart Balance and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, the latter certainly has the edge in longevity. For the past few decades, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter has profited greatly from television and print commercial campaigns willing to poke fun at itself with stars like Fabio along for the ride. Television advertising for Smart Balance is not in heavy circulation. Both brands have insightful websites, www.smartbalance.com and www.tasteyoulove.com.

Unlike Smart Balance whose products include microwave popcorn and peanut butter, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter has retained its primary focus; versions of its original, light and fat free substitutes. People know what they are getting with I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter. The loyalty the company has shown to its customers in dedicating itself to being the best brand of its type has been financially rewarding. Oh and there are health benefits, too. That said those benefits lean more in favor of Smart Balance.

Nutrition labels confirm that a serving of butter is 1 tablespoon (14 grams) and that it contains 11 grams of fat and 100 calories. The same serving in the Smart Balance buttery spread contains 9 grams of fat and 80
calories. I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter is made up of 10 grams of fat and 90 calories. The light and fat free spreads for each brand have no trans fat. Growing evidence has shown that trans fats are more damaging than saturated fat in that it actually can raise the LDL "bad" cholesterol and lower the HDL "good" cholesterol in blood. While the statistics for both spreads are comparable and healthier than butter, Smart Balance can be part of a vegetarian diet. In fact Smart Balance Lite is vegan, a rarity among butter spreads.

Interestingly the aforementioned strength of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, their sole concentration of creating delicious butter based products, is contrary to Smart Balance’s strength, their ability to market other food categories. Putting out vegetable oils and cheeses as well as butter substitutes gives them a sizable edge in terms of being the more health conscious brand.

Prices vary from store to store but generally I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter is the better buy ranging anywhere from $1 to $2 cheaper than Smart Balance. Also, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter is easier to find since Smart Balance is sold mainly at organic and Whole Foods chains.

All things considered, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter and Smart Balance are satisfying alternatives to butter. The brands distinguish themselves in the areas of promotion, health and price. For a chuckle as you smear, go for I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter If you would like to burn a few more calories on the treadmill, try Smart Balance. Buy I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter to save some dough. But choose either as an appetizing substitute.

My personal opinion:
I choose "Smart Balance." Though the difference is only 1 gram of fat and 10 calories per 1 tablespoon if you add them overtime however, that's a lot. In one year or 365 days, you are talking about a difference of 365 grams of fat and 3650 calories per tablespoon of butter. That is if you only consume 1 tablespoon a day.

Yes, Smart Balance is more expensive by a dollar or so - but I think it's worth it! if It affects our overall health. It's a price I am willing to pay.

However, there are manufacturers coupon you can watch out for.

Have a great and a HEALTHY weekend!
